While studying to be a pharmacist, the only information I received from my teacher who taught the nutrition class was “don’t worry too much about vitamins, only be sure to eat a sufficient amount of red meat.” To be sure, not much emphasis was placed on the value of vitamins, herbs, and nutritional supplements.

It was only that after I got out practicing pharmacy that I learned from my customers the value of natural vitamins and supplements. I realized this value by trying some myself. Both, my wife and I were surprised to find that we were able to physically feel the difference in the natural products from the synthetic vitamins we sometimes used but most of the time did not take because we could not tell any difference when we did remember to take them.

Years later our interest in these natural products kept increasing and we were beginning to learn the value of illness prevention by reading

about the research from reliable sources. One thing led to another and we discovered a company in California, Great Earth Vitamins, that began with two pharmacists, Earl Mindel and Bernie Bubman. I found out later that there were several other pharmacists who were franchise owners and were extremely happy with these products. In 1983 I sold my drug stores and entered the vitamin business in the Dallas area, opening two stores, one in Garland and one in Irving and for the next 25 or so years we enjoyed using the fine products from the Great Earth Vitamin Company, as did many of our customers. Unfortunately, because of various reasons, including the demise of the owner, the Great Earth Company ceased to exist, which was a great concern to not only us but also many other Great Earth Vitamin Stores.

Thanks to the many Great Earth franchisees in the California area, aided and led by Bernard Kash, a fellow franchise holder, we were able to obtain the formulas from the old Great Earth Company and began to manufacture the same fine quality of products under the Viva label. The Viva products are manufactured exactly with the same excellent pharmaceutical process demonstrating a quality that is unsurpassed.

We are just thankful that Bernard and the other Great Earth franchisees also recognized the quality and value of the formulas from the old Great Earth Company and desired to keep them and that we have been able to continue to supply them to our fine customers.

We will eventually be changing our name to Earth Wise Vitamins, however, for now most of our Texas customers know us as Great Earth Vitamins, which is the same great formulas only with the Viva label.
